CO-OPERATION OF COUNTRY DISTRICTS.

REPRESENTATIVES APPOINTED

The General Committee have been hard at work since Friday with the view of securing the systematic co-operation of the country towns and districts. The plan adopted lias been to appoint local representatives in dif-

ferent. centres,' who are entrusted with the organisation of local committees. There has been no time to communicate with all tlio gentlemen named in order to obtain their, consent to act, but the committee feel confident that the urgency of the occasion and tho object to be attained will be a sufficient justification for what has been done and ensure the systematic co-operation of the gentlemen named. The committee are conscious that there are hundreds throughout Otago who would be willing to act, and their assistance will no doubt' be cheerfully given by serving on a local committee, and otherwise. It is also possible that in the hurry of parcelling out districts some have been overlooked. , Where.such, is the case, these districts will no doubt gladly supply the omission. In some cases .also appointments have been made where action has already begun. It is not intended in these cases to suggest any ■alteration of existing arrangements. The local representatives in each district Will associate witlnthom any others who are willing to form an effective committee, so that the whole of their respective districts may be afforded an opportunity of assisting. The form in which the efforts of each centre shall take, is, of course, left to itself; but it is suggested that each centre might undertake (o equip one or more men with a horse apiece, provided with £25 for his equipment, or to go as far as possible in that direction. Contributions in fodder will also be of great, value. As the remounts have to leave by the 17th inst./^and the contingent in the first week in March, it is evident how essential it is that action be taken by all with the utmost possible expedition. We subjoin a list of the gentlemen who have been nominated as local representatives in their respective districts: — Anowtown.—The Mayor, Messrs H. B.
