PORT CHALMERS THE FINAL PORT.

TO LEAVE ON SATURDAY, 3rd MARCH.

Before leaving for Wellington on Saturday morning the Premier informed the Patriotic Committee that he had sent a-cable to the Imperial authorities asking that a troopship should be sent to the colony to convey the fourth contingent to South Africa. The ship will have accommodntion for a large number of men and horses. Mr Sccklon anticipates that the contingent will comprise about iOO at least. It will be a Now Zealand contingent, the company which Otago and Southland save undertaken to raise being in the same position as the Canterbury (or princ'pal company) occupies in the third contingent, llie farewell will be from Port Cliaimw, which will bo the final port of departure from this colony, and. the date will be Saturday, March 3.
