A large number of members and officers ofCourt Hobin Hood, No. 3991, A.0.F., met in' the Foresters' Hall, Port Chalmers, on Friday,' when, at the request of Bro. Dillon, C.E., Mr John Mill took the chair. Bro. Mill, who is one of the founders of the lodge, expressed tho pleasure hefelt at being asked to .take part in a very pleasing ceremony, that of. presenting their esteemed friend and brother, Past" Chief Ranger Bro. W. G. Fail, with a token of the regard felt for him by the court, and as' a slight mark of the valuable services he had rendered the members during the term of his office as secretary. Nothing they could '. do w-ould adequately repay Bro. Fail for his labours, but they were about to ask his ac-: ceptance of'a gold watch pendant and a Gladstone bag as a slight mark of the esteem in which' he was held.—(Applause.) He (Mr (Mill) trusted Bro. Fail would be long.spared' to wear the pendant, and that he would continue for many years to give the court the. benefit of his services and advice.—(Applause.). Tho pendant, a handsome oblong gold one, bears on tho obverse the initials "W. G. F." and on the reverse: " Presented to W. G. Fail, P.C.E., from the members of Court Robin Hood, No. 3091, for extra services rendered. January, 1SO0." Bro. Fail was then saluted with full Foresters' honours, the Chief Ranger, Bro. Dillon, leading. Bro. W. G. Fail, in Teturring^ thanks, said the presentation came, upon him as a pleasant surprise. He never anticipated that anything of the kind would take place. Anything he had done was peTfoimed with a free will, and without the hopeof reward. He had been a member of' the order for 42 years, and had filled every office, in Court Robin Hood except that of treasurer.. He assured them he looked upon the presentation as a double honour, first, because it was a mark that they appreciated his services, and, next that it was a spontaneous gift from the members, and not paid for from the funds of; the court. He assured them he should prize their handsome gifts highly, and that at any' time his services were necessary they would, be at the court's disposal.—(Applause.) An. adjournment was then made for refreshments, and at the request of Bro. J. Mill, the health of Bro. Dillon, the Chief Ranger, was drunk with musical honours. Bro. E. M'Alpine, P.C.R., was indefatigable in attending to the comforts of the members and visitors, and a,couple of hours was spent in harmony, some excellent songs, principally patriotic, being rendered by ; Bros. Dr Borne (court surgeon), G.Churchill, Montgomery, Anderson, E. Smith," J. K. Murray, Osborne, F. Fail, G. Cashman, M'Alpine and Young, while P.C.R. Bro. A. Fullarton]' sen., gave an effective recitation. Prior to separating "Rule Britannia" and "God savethe Queen" : were sung.
