J.H. lias not sent his name. Enthusiast.—The number of troops despatched from India to Africa is as follows-— Field batteries, 4 (24 guns), 619 officers and mencavalry regiments, 3 guns, 1383 officers and men; infantry battalions, 3602 officers and men; total, 5724 officers and men. One of these regiments of cavalry (the 9th Lancers) was ' sent on to the Capo, consisting of 46S officers and men. Major Kennedy informs us that he does not know the length of the -1.7 suns There are tlirco different patterns of the gun in use in the navy at present. The information can bo obtained by applying to the gunnery lieutenant on any of H.B.M. ships in New Zealand waters. Major Kennedy does not know the family of Major-general J. D. P. French now in the Cane, but Majorgeneral G. A. French, C.M.G. is an Irishman, and was born in 18<U at Koscommon, Ireland.
