On Monday last, at the warehouse of Messrs. P.- Hayman and Co., Mr H. S.. Jones, who has been 'associated with that' firm for nearly 33 years, and is now retiring from active service owing to failing health, was the recipient of a beautifully illuminated address, and also a handsome diamond ring suitably.engraved. Mr Max Colin, who made the presentation on behalf of the. employees, referred to the long connection of Mr Jones with the firm, and the esteem in which ho wa3 held by both principals and employees, and also expressed the hope that the well earned rest he is about to enjoy may be the means of :restoring- his health.. Mr' Jones,., who' spoke with some emotion,' in replying to Mr Cohn's remarks, -said.'he could not find-words sufficiently! expressive to convey his feelings. He was sure they would understand fullyrthat there was.a mixture of regret and pleasure—regret, owing to the necessity of his retirement, and pleasure in knowing-he possessed the esteem and respect of the lirni^ and its employees. He trusted they would accept his sincere thanks for all the good things they had said, and also for their handsome gifts, which, as often as he looked upon them! would remind him, though he could assure them he would not need any reminder, of the many happy years he had spent with them, and ho would also bear very grateful testimony to ( the firm for the kind and generous treatment they were according him at this juncture as well as In the past.
