CITY COUNCIL REPORTS.

The following are summaries of the reports to be submitted at to-night's meeting of the City Council: —

! The "Works Committee recommend that the application of .Mr 'W. G. Geddes and others to have a proper asphalt footpath foi mcd on the west 'side of Bath stroet be granted at a cost of £41, including concrete kerb and channel, provided the adjoining property-holders contribute half the expense. That the application of Mr Commin and others to have the channel on the south'side of Brook street cemented be complied with by putting down a concrete kerb and channel from Castle street along Brook and Leith streets to Howe street, at a cost of £80, provided the adjoining propertyholders contribute half the expense. With reference to Mr P. Farrell's offfh- to supply machine-broken bluestone metal, that tenders be invited for the supply of 2000 cubic yards of road metal. That additional gas lamps be erected—one in Queen street north of Duke street, two in George street north of Duke street, one on the Main North road between the Gardens entrance and the tram terminus, one in Bond street at the corner of Police street, one 011 the right-of-way on the east side of the Town Belt, ono in Rattray street at the corner of Thomas Burns street, one in Vogel street at comer of Police street, four in Cumberland street, one in Anderson's Bay road on west side of Vogel streot, one in Harbour terrace between Dundas and Union sheets. That the question of erecting a lamp "in St. Andrew street between Athol place and Castle street be referred to the chairman and the city surveyor with power to act. That the lanterns on the lamp posts at Dr Stuart's statue be removed and others of' a more suitable design be substituted. They rccommond that tbe application of the Otago Daily Times and AVitness Company to erect-an overhead bridge across Macandrew street be granted, on condition that if it is found to interfere with traffic it must be removed up to the third storey. They report that Alessrs Crawford and Co.'s tender (£ll9 15s) for repairing the stone work of the Town Hall main entrance has been accepted. The Water Committee report that the following applications have been declined: — Messrs A. Tapper and Co., for payment of £30, compensation for alleged damage to bond cellar, goods, and business, by waler stated to have come from a burst water service, Moray place. Mr N. M'Leod, compensation for alleged damage to his property and slock through the discharge of water from tho Silverstream race into creeks passing through his land, Whare Flat.

Tho Reserves Committee report having instructed the city surveyor to act with tho chairman and a committee of the Dunedin and Suburban Reserves Conservation Society with regard to the improvement of the portion of the Quarry reserve at the junction of Canongate street and Serpentine avenue, tho society having agreed lo contribute up to £30, being one-half the estimated expense. The thanks of the council have been duly conveyed lo Mr Gray, Burnside, for donations of plant* for the Botanical Gardens.

The Gas Committee report having instructed the gas engineer to have incandescent burners fitted to the gas lamps in Princes street, between High and Jelly streets. The Finance Committee recommend that Mr H. VV. Wilson be granted a bonus of £25 for the extra work imposed upon him during the five months of Mr Taylor's absence.

Tho General Committee recommend the council to decline Mr Morgan's offer to soil tbe "Victoria salt water swimming baths, in view of the city Surveyor's report as to the condition of the buildings and premises. Captain Mitchell's report for the .year shows that the Fire Brigade attended 62 calls, that the insurances on tbe pniperty attended amounted to £73.165, and the losses on the same came to £16,782.
