The s.s. Ardandearg (Tyser line) left New York on April 12 for the Australasian colonies with a full cargo. Tho s.s. Talur.e Gleamed down to Tort Chalmers yesterday morning, and sailed for Melbourne, via Hobart, in the afternoon. | The s.s. Botokino came up from Port Chalmers yesterday morning to go into commission again after ha\ing received a complete overhaul. She looks like a new vessel, and with her new manganese-bronze propeller ought to be able to make good 'time under steam. She leaves tliis afternoon for Mie Bluff, thence to Auckland, via Oamaru aiid Timaru. The s.s. Mararoa goes down to Port Chalmers this morning, and sails in tho afternoon for Sydney, via Auckland, passengers joining her by the 2.30 p.m. train. Up to yesterday the s.s. Ruahine had put out about 1400 tons of cargo at the (ieorgc street pier, including several heavy lift?. The s.s. Slar of New Zealand, which left the Thames on March 30 for Melbourne. Sydney. Auckland, Wellington, and Lyttelton. was compelled to return to Gravesend and discharge the combustible portion of her cargo, consisting of a quantity of dynamite, before proceeding back to London. She had reached Beachy Head on her outward trip, and, during a fog, collided with the Merman cattle steamer, 'Pontus, from South America. The l'ontus sank. The Star of New Zealand, si steamer of 4-F4O tons, belonging to tfie Tyser line, was commanded by Captain Reed. The barque Devonport left Garden Island (Tasmania), on the 4th inst. for Dnnclin ■vliarf. Her cargo consists of 160,000 ft of timber. She. should soon put in an appearance. The Daily Commercial Shipping News (Sydney) gives the following account of tho wreck of the barque Regent Murray, from Adelaide lo Newcastle, where she was to load for the S.W. const of Spanish South America. She arrived off the p-irt of Newcastle, and was picked up by the tug Ncwburgh at about 7 a.m., of the <lth inst. There was a nasty sea running, but all went well until the southern breakwater was rounded at 9.30 a.m. When < rowing the bar angry breaker* swept the entrance lo the harbour, in which the vessel pitched and rolled heavily, the tug bravely sticking to her. The Newburgh endeavoured to forge ahead in the teeth of the terrific, rale. . but the seas and the gale played ftp with the barque, which was riding high, being light in ballast, and started her drifting. One heavy se? followed another in quick succession, and eventually the vessel refused to answer her helm, and became unmanageable. She was carried right on to the wreck of the e.s. Wendouroe, which lies on the oyster bank. Tho Regent Murray slruck the. stern of the wreck on her quarter, making a hole, through which the water flowed in. Soon after the fine ship went down, and now lies alongside the AVendouree.

in a dangerous position to the shipping of tho port, just ii.sido the, breakwater. Pilot Gumming hoarded the vessol, and was cm board at the time of the casually. All hands were taken off by Hie Newcastle life bout, without losing anything. She has boon abandoned as a wreck, and tho probability is she will soon break up. She was commanded by Captain Uoulledge, and wiw an iron vessel'of 781 tons net, built at Glasgow in 1876. Both ship and commander wove well known in the port (if Otago, ancl much sympathy is felt for her captiun. ' The "N.Z.S. Company's iron ,barquo Opnwa, of 1076 tons net register, and which carries about 1500 tons dead weight, classed 100 Al at Lloyd's, and now on her way from Napier to London, has been sold to foreigners, subject to safe arrival and docking clauses. Tho \merican burquo, Mary Hasbrouck, from New York for Wellington, which put into Table Bay wtth her tanks leaky cm .l«ol>ruaiy 17, resumed her voyage to Now Zealand on March 20.
