During the quarter ended 30th September, 1898, 66,6420z. gold, of the value of £254,031, were exported from New Zealand, being an increase of 64200z as compared with the corresponding quarter last year.' Auckland • district shows an'increase of 13,9530z, while there is a considerable fa-llirig-off in. the returns from the West Coast and Otago. , ■ ■.. The customs. duties collected . throughout New Zealand during the September quarter amounted to £529,581; as against £502,528 for the corresponding period1 last year. The totals for', the principal ports were:—Auckland, £128,644, as against £130,942 for the 'September' nuartef .of 1897; Wellington, £125,851, as against £113,083; Lyttelton and Christchurch, £81,098,' as against £76,173-; Dunedin, 106,001,.as against £101,7Q8. , .
