TRADES AND LABOUR.
An Auckland telegram states that the Auckland carters havo decided to form a union under the Conciliation and Arbitration Act. Mr W. Fr.rme yesterday engaged 12 labourers and one mason out of 27 applicants for railway formation work on the Otago Centra! Tiia following is the number of artisans and workmen employed on co-operativo works under' Government departments during September:- -Survey department. ISS3 labourers: Public Works department, 174 artisans and 1208 labourers, 1382 in all; Labour department (Lovin State Farm), in addition to nine families, one art-ban and 20 labourers.
