BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.
to t;hs editor. .. Sib,—The letter under above heading, signed ," Veritas," in Wednesday's indicates right lines upon which religious instruction can {.'be given in the State schools without offence ; "tiiough I am» of -opinion Scripture lessons to' which no denonmat'Pn of Christians would object could also be given. I know oE ab least one private school .for young children in Dunedm;—to "which I send my children—whore religious' instruction is given without the slightest tinge of denominational!sm. Were it otherwise I should object. Scripture history is there taught, largely I believe, from a little, book in simple language called "Line uponi j Line." ...-.''.., What can be done in a private school might be done in State schools, and would meet with , considerable approval from .parents. A section of the clergy might not be satisfied, for I am sometimes afraid some of them are more anxious to assert their respective tenets than to teach the practical everyday religion of the Gospel.—l am, &c, .
