GAPS IN THE SANDHILLS. TO THE EDITOR.
Sic, —Seaing that we have had the sea come in upon us for the second tima, it is nearly time something was done to prevent it happening again. The money each borough has paid to the Domain Board seems to have been spent on a useless work, which could have bean done later on, when the hills had been made safe ! against the sea coming in. { . I propose that a stone wall filled in with con- j crete be constructed at the base of the Sandhills, ! say, 6ft or lOffe, from the ro&d line from Tahuna i Park to Sb. Clair, the height to be 3ft- or 4t't j . above high water. It could always be mads I higher as required. The drifting sand would soon fill in at the back of the wall and so form a roadway. Ths sand not to ba taken from any I part by any person. There should also be a breakwater thrown out from beyond the baths at St. Clair to break the force of the sea coming into St. Glair. ■ •.■■•. ,■ As for ways and means, subscriptions should be started to raise money, the Government approached for agrant-in-aid, and the boroughs. applied to for a gift of stone fo? the work. It cannot be done without, a loan should be got (money is cheat)) and a small tax levied to meet the interest.—l am, &c., ■ ■ : ■ ■ • One op the Fiat's Residents^ !
