To-niKW Charles Hoodless,' a single Di*n, about 25 yearn old. a' carrier, arrived at his lodgings at Hill Bros., Owen road, Mount Eden, apparently mad with drink. He beat his horae badly, and then got his quo. and cleared th« whole household out. He fired at Thomas Hill with a charge of powder, and afterwards at Miss Tempio Hill with a charge of No. 5 shot. Charlotte Hill, aged 12, locked hera&lf in a room, and was got out with difficulty by Thomas HiU through a window. Constablo Mackle, of Newmarket, came, and with help secured Hoodies* in the house, end with the aid of Constable Moffett handcuffed his bands behind his back and strapped his leg-i. Ha was thui brought in a trap to the Ancklund lock-up, where he was charged with shooting at Miss Tempie Hill with intent to do grievous bodily harm. Hoodlesj has been two years in the colony. He caraa from Lincolnshire, and is alleged to be violent and dtD^erous when under the influence of liquor. He had been sober for three months, but got drunk through vexation over a business transaction.
September 24.
When charged at. the Police Court to-day with shooting Miss Tempie Hill, Hoodlass said "I don't know anything about it." He was remanded till Thursday.
