The result of the trials for sly grog-seiling in tha King Country is that 22 put\oE; 24- defendants were convicted, while one case was dismissed, and a second was withdrawn, owing to the state of the defeudaaC's hcaltn. There is another case in which the summons couid not be served owing to the tsbsence of the, pei'eon concerDed, bub it will probibly corae pa later on. The total fines '■ iuQicted "on 12 'defendauts, Earoueans and MawiF, toial up to £238 r ar;d the total costs to £108 4g 6d, or a grand tota! of £245 As 6d. Ten Nativsa were seritenced .by Captain Jackson, 8.M., to termsof imprisonment without the option of a fite. • Inspector'- Cijllen was ably aided'in bis '• life insurance txrfedition" by two AVanganui Natives. - They were made ppecinl coDstablee, and left before bis departure from Wangsnui for the Eiug Country going by way of Pipiriki,, Tauraaranui, and tha Poro-u----tarao tunnel. They were ostensibly atteoding the Native' Lands Court at Otarotunga. Th'tsa two Wanganui worthies were the'; men who devoted their attention to the gentry who went about with a bottle and a glass, the walkius srog.-shops, and supplied a "fijlc want", in the King Country. These two Native police detectives left to-day for Wanganui with Infipectos Callen. > : - ' ' '
