THE MILITARY PREPARATIONS. Press Associatien—By Telegraph—Copyright. Calcutta, September 3. The military preparations in India indicate that it is the intention of the authorities to punish the natives in the Afridis country right up to ths Tirah Pass. September 4. Sir William Lockharr, the general commanding the Punjaub district has been recalled from London. He will assume general control of 40,000 troops stationed on the frontier. The expedition against the Sloamands will occupy a fortnight, after which the troops will advance against the Afridis and Orafezais at Titan Pass. The Afridis are now ssnding contingents to assist the Orakzais against the British, at Samana Kidge. The Swafcis on ths right bank of the river have paid 35,000 rupees and yielded np 800 firearms and 700 swords. The tribesmen, however, have concealed the breech-loaders, and have msrely surrendered useless weapons. Loudos, September 3. The Simla correspondent of The Times, denies that a second letter has been sent to the Ameer demanding replies to certain specific questions and asking him to avoid generalities. x
