At a meeting bf; the Auckland Board of Education this afternoon the following letter to the chairman and members was read from a country schoolteacher :—
Having received a letter, marked " private and confidential," regue&tihg' my influence with the chairman and members of my si-hool committee otx behalf of a candidate for the board, I have for the following reasons deemed it -my duty to place the matter before .the board [a copy of the circular referred to was enclosed] :—(1) To act in accordance would be a violation' Of regulation 44, and I lake it that ifc is a duty nf the hoard to protect as far as possible their teachers from' such insults on their integrity:- (3) Teachers' who act in accordance with such a request Would lookfdr "i return of such from the candidate if elected, aad-thus wuald bring about cortuption.-.i: (3).' l inffcr. .the writer is aware of. the. the wrong .tone by. marking the letter " private and confidential."—l am, Ac, John Wm.
