OTAGO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SOCIETY.

We have to acknowledge receipt ef an advance copy of the Otago'Agricultural and Pastoral Society's annual schedule. It contains full particulars of tbe various competitions at the society's annual summer show, the conditions and points to be awarded for tho best managed farm oompelitioii, tloUiln iv connection with the tiolrl turnip prized, and also some special prizes for competition at the next winter show. The general regulations have been carefully revised, anjl tbo tlllinront rules printed under separate headings, thins enabling exhibitors to see at ooco all p-irtioillurs Otjuired when making entrion, removing stock, and the conditions under which a pruteti will ba received. Special instructions aro iucluded for tbe juidance of tbe judges under tho different sections, and aluo the dutioi of the class stewards who aro in attendance. Iv addition to the large amount offered in prizes, the committee expect to receive a large number of special and private prizes, which wiil bo allotted and awarded in addition to those contained in the aobedule. The committee havo decided to issue a special schedule early next year for their annual,whiter show, wbich will be held in the first week in Juue in the Agricultural Hall now being erected, and in the meautime would be pleased if members and exhibitors woiild forward to the secretary any suggestions with a view of addiog additional classes or to the better working of sume. The various mutters taken up by thn society during the last !few years should be sufficient inducement to farmers to become members, aiid thos assist tbe committee to continue to extend their operations, and the largo patronage reseived by the locil tradespeople from tbe influx of visitors who attend ths different shows should encourage them to lend a helping hand by liberally subscribing, and make tbe Otago A. and P. Society even of more practical value to its mi-rabers. On the whole the committee may be congratulated oa the complete and concise preparation of 60 promising a schedule of classes and different competitions. The thanks of the society are due to those firms who have ss libarally presented special prizes. It will not be necessary for us to detiil the different classes, as over 2500 of the schedules will bs distributed by the secretary during this week.
