SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
The monthly meeting of the North- East Valley Committee wns held on Monday evening. The Head Master reported that the attendance for the month was :—On the roll: Boys, 251; girls, 268;— total, 519. • Avenge: Bays, 217 ; girls, 232 ;—total, 449. The highest number on any half day was : Boys, 233 ; girls, 252 ;— total, 485. The Vi«iting Committee reported that the school was ia good working order, and the head master had started a boys' rifle club. The committee objected to the propoeed school at Opobo on tho ground that it wag not required, and its erection would be against the interests of the existing school. .. It was resolved to bring the objection under the notice of the Education Board.
The usual inouth!y meeting of the Ravensboarae School Committee was held on Monday overling, the Bey.' Mr Ash presiding and all the members being present/ The committee decided that it was advisable that one hour uhould be allowed for dinner. A motion limiting the daily work of the school to five hours was not carried; the head master beiug authorised to use his discretion. The bead master's report showed :—Boys, lo4'B ; girls, 974 ;—total, 202. Numbur on roll: Boys, 110; girls, 107;— total, 217. The pen and ink money received for the quarter was £1 Is 9d. The peony savings bank report showed that the deposits received for August amounted to £4 4s scl, and the withdrawals to £6'7s lid; total fuods in hand, £181 9s lid; number of 'depositors, 162." The committea approved of 7tSr Reid getting up a concert to raisa funds for the purpose of securing prizes for good attendance.
