The report of the medical superintendent of the hospital (Dr Baldwin) shows that 1244 cases were under treatment during the yesr ending March 31, 1896, and that 133 died. Excluding those cases moribund on admission the mortality was B'3B per cent. There were 25 diphtheria cases, fire dying. Seven cases of tetanus were treated, and six died. '

The Supreme Court has been occupied for two days in hearing the action West v. Dolbell. Plaintiff, a small farmer, and his wife brought an action against Dolbell, a Bheepfarmer, for damages for personal injui'y to Mrs West. It was alleged that defendant's sheep while trespassing on the road ao frightened the horse Miss West wa» driving that it upset the cart down an embankment, seriously injuring Mrs West. Damages wore laid at £500. The defence was a denial that the sheep were Dolbell's and contributory negligence. A verdict was given for the defendant.
