This summary records shipping ovents of the period commencing February 17 and'ending March 15, both dates inclusive : —

Daring the period represented here shipping matters have been briak, and a considerable amount of trade has been transacted, while the outlook for the coming season may be looked upon as a fairly good one. Our produce traffic may be considered to be fixed on a firm basis, and its prospects jnat now are all that can reasonably be looktfd for; numbers of small producers who hava hitherto refrained from forwarding their goods to ths old country will now Uka advantage of the Otago Dock Tmut opening their commodious refrigerating o'aamber3 at Port Chalmers, and will chip their ov/u dairy goods and produce of tbat kiud direct to t.ha mother land.

Tbe amount of shipping work at the Port 'his month compares favourably with that of Jan-uary-February, and business generally raay bo considered to have hardened.

Daring the month the number of arrivals of vessels of all c'asse3 at the port of Otsgo have been 47, representing a total of 6729 tons register, against 49 vessels last month with 60,543 tons. Tho depastured thli month have been 44 vessels representing 65,638 tons register, while last month they amounted to 40 vessels with a total, of 55,077 tons reigteter.

From O»maru: 363 bulei wool End skins, 23 casks pe'ts, 8019 carcases mutton, 6 froson calves, and 1 easy sundries. The N Z. Shipping Company's a.s. Aoraniji, of 4196 lons, Captain Sur.clife, left Port Chalmers on March 1 for London, via nort&ern potts. She took a quautity of wool from here.
