FIRE BRIGADES' DEMONSTRATION.

Tfae biennial demonstration of the Doited Fire Brigades' Association was concluded at Lancaster Park to-day. The wsathor was ahowery. Results: — Hose, Hydrant, and Union Competition.—For five men. Five men run 10 yards; pick up four 50ft, properly strapped, coiled, wet hose, hydrant, union, two branches all to bo detached, lyine flat on tho ground ; run 25yds to plug; fix hydrant, connect one l«ad of two 50ft hose; fix union, and conuect 50ft hose to each delivery of union ; fix branches, and with both waters striks a disc about 10ft from the ground. The protests lodge*! yesterday against Christctrarcb and Kumora in the various events were disminaod.

The Challengo Shield (presented by Messrs Shand, Mason, Mid Co., London, to the officer of the brigade gaining the greatest number of poinfa) was awarded to Saporintendeat B. Smith, of the Cbristchurch Brigade, which scored 15 points. The Ashbnrton Brigade was soeond, with 13 points ; Napier third, with 11; Hustings fourth, with 8 points ; and Spit fifth. with 7 points.
