PRESENTATION.
A numerous meeting of tho employees Of the Union Steam Ship Company wbb held at GoldSmith's Terminus Hotel on Saturday evening, when Mr T. Walker, the lato foreman shipwright to the company, was presented with tt handsome goid watch, subscribfid for by the coiupitty'a employees, as a mark of their esteem fof Mr Walkar. Captain Cameron, marine snperlntendent of the company, occupied the ohoir, and htnongat the visitors presont were Messrs Sparrow, Burt, Cuble, and Cameron, while apologies were received from Messrs Cook (superin' tendent of engineers), Morgan, and Stevenson. The entertainment took the form of a smoke concert, and was got up in Host Goldsmith s beat style. After the usual loyal and complimentary toasts had been honoured, and some excellent conga rendered, tbe chairman, addressing Mr Walker, said:-"Mr Walker, the duty I have now to perform is one which gives me very great pleasure indeed, I havd been deputed by the employees of the Union Ste&u> Ship Company and friends to present you with a little token of the respsct and esteem in which you are held, and the appreciation they entertain of your G00" qualities. As all present aro aware, you resigned from tho po-ition of foreman shipwright at the besiuning of the present year, after a long and faithful service. The special knowledge you possessed, together with your extended experience, always proved you well qualified for the position you held. During your long service you have made many friends amongst those who were associated with you, and, now that you nro severiDg your connection with them, your fellow employees arid friends are desirous of giving some tangible.ioken of the re3pfist in which they hold you. It is, therefore, with this object that wo have met hero to-night; and I have very much pleasure in presehtiUg to you, on their bahalf, this beautiful gold watch. lam sure we one and all wish you niauy happy years to wear it."—(Applause.) Mr Walker, in a few expressive worde, returned his thahka for the second public expression of the Uniou Steam Ship Company's employees towards him, and assured thorn ha should highly estimate this mark of their enteem. During tho evening Messrs F, Young, Carter, Smith, F. L. Jones, R. C. Jones, Ibbotflon, Hauler, and ihagor flontributed some excellent songs, while Mr J. Timson officiated at the piano, and a most enjoyable time was spent.
