LIABILITY FOR CALLS. Melboubnb, February 19,
The Fall Court have decided that a seller of shares on the Stock Exchaogo is not liablo for subsequent calls, even if the shares still appeared in his name on tho register. The court held that the purchaser was alone liable.
WARM WEATHER.
The weather has been very hot for fche past few days, and several deaths have occurred from heat apoplexy.
Tha Legislative CouncU determined to insist on their ainehdiaents to-the Federation and Railway Bills, and the latter bill will probably be the subject of a conference between both Houses.

CITIZENS' LIFE ASSURANCE COMPANY.
Sydney, February 19.
At the annual meeting of the Citizens' Life Assnranca Company the report showed that 80,724 new industrial ami 4199 ordinary policies had been issued, the latter insuring for over half a mi-lion of money. The income had increased '»_•? L 19,500, and the expenses had decreased- by L4OOO as compared with the previous year. A bonus of 30s per cent, on. all participating policies and 10 per cent, on the paid-up capital was declared, and L 2390 carried forward. The report was adopted.
NORFOLK ISLAND,
Letters from Norfolk Island show that the proposal to transfer the control from the Imperial Government to New South Wales is viewed variously, but generally tha idea is distasteful.
TRADE WITH WEST AUSTRALIA. Adelaide, February 19,
As showing the rapid growth of trade with Western Australia, ths value of South Australian exports to that colony last year was £760,000, as compared with £486,000 for the previous year. Ths increases were chiefly in breadstuff-, fodder, live stock and othsr articles o£ consumption, and mining machinery.

At a caucus of the Opposition party Mr Powers resigned the Chairmanship of the Council of the party, but Btated that hs would remain a member of the' Council. Mr Drake waa elected his successor, but no definite leader will be appointed till after the elections.
A RICH FIND.
Perth, February 19.
A splendid find ia reported from Mount Robinson, 15 utiles from Ka'goorlie. Specimens weighing lcwt, it is estimated, will yield one-third gold. The stone closely resembles that from the Wealth of Nations.
