A DAIRYING DISCOVERY.

Mr D. Munro, who claims to have discovered a process by which he can convert skim milk into a marketable commodity, met the members of the Western District Butter Factories Association at Warrnambool. The Argus reports Mr Munrp as follows:—Tbe average price now ] paid iv the colony for full cream milk was 2|l i per gallon, and he olaimed that (by his pron-si they could not only obtain that amount, bub also an additional 2£d a gallon for the skim milk; consequently by doing so he would give the colony its butter for. nothing. Hehnd. made a sample of the article produced by bis process from skim milk', and would demonstrate that he could make a duplicate of any Continental condensed milk guaranteed to contain full cream milk. (The sample of Mr Mamo's. preparation was here produced, aud compaied with Nestles Swias milk). He put a composition of his own into the skim milk to supply the deficiency caused by the cream - having been taken out of it. The article mado by him could be used for household consumption, and every other purpose for which full cream milk was used with the exception of feeding children. It would not be recommended for tbat purpose, and this would' be distinctly stated on the labels. About 300,000 gallons was utterly Inst to the colony annually. He calculated the coat of buying and treating 300.000 gallons of skim milk and placing the article in tins, &c„ as follows : —Cost of milk, £3125: .25,000 cases at 4d each, £400; 1,200,000 tins, £1650; composition (for the preparation), £3000; 30 per cent, for working expenses, freight, commission, &c, £3750. Now, thii article tdus manufactured wquld bring in £3200 more than the amount of co-it, so there would be a very large proSb. He would advise that a plant be erected in oue large centre for completing the process, making the tins and boxes, and getting the article ready fur the mackfct. There could be smaller branches at which this first part of the process could'be dove, and the article then sent to the large centre for completion. As for the market, he had no doubt concerning that, and he could take delivery of 5000 cases and dispose of them in London to-morrow.

Several questions were asked, in reply to' which Mr Munro naid a large Melbourne firm wks bo impressed with his system ' that they offered to e.rect a plant ior the, first factory, ami, not ask for payment unless it.proved a success., He m-rely stipulated that the sale-of all thut was manufactured from skim milk should be conducted through him.. Iv return for this be would show them how the process was carried out.

A committee, consisting of a representative of each factory m the district, was appointed to confer with Mr Munro, and report to another meeting.
