The Wbangaiei correspondent of the New Zealand Herald, writing on the 7th iost., says:—" The reports about tie kauri forest being swept by fires were rather exaggerated. So far not much damage hag been done, but still there was great danger. But for the rain of 3rd February the catastrophe of 1888 would hive been repeated to a certainty, and withtv high wind all the fire engines in Chicago would have been uselesi." !
