At a meeting of the Liberal Association a resolution was passed unanimonaly urging upon the Government the desirability of taking up fire insurance business.

At the Oddfellows' picnic at Motutapu 8000 were present. A boy named Piper, who went to it, is missing.

A rink, of Sydney bowlers has arrived at Auckland to take part in. the intercolonial tournament at Auckland*

Wellington, February 17. The Governor proposes to make a trip through the Uriwera country to Lake Waikaremoana, accompanied by the Hon. Mr Carroll. His Excellency will leave on Wednesday next lor Napier, thenoe to Wairoa.

At a meeting of the Industrial Association to-Dight, it was decided that the exhibition should ba opened on or about the 25th November. Tbe buildings will bo erected adjoining tbe Education Board offices, at the foot of Cuba street. Committees were appointed to proceed with their neverai functions.

A Cabinet meeting was held to-night, bnt nothing definite was decided with regard to the vacant portfolios.

Invkrcaegill, February 17. The Cape Agricultural Commissioners, who have finished their tour through the colony and leave by steamer for Melbourne to-morrow, in an interview, said that they were most favourably impressed with the dairying industry as carried on in New Zealand, and consider it a good line to take up at the Capo. Dairy cattle are, however, not there in sufficient numfiera, and it would be necessary to augment the stock considerably before going into the industry on a large ecale.
