SHIPPING DISASTERS.
Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. Caiho. October 19. A steamer collided with' a ferry boat, wbich sank. Fifty persons were drowned. ■ Sidney. October 19. The steamer Indiana, outward bound, collided with the American ship' Alameda, from Paget Sound. The latter was cat down to th. water's edge, and was only saved from sinking by her cargo of timber. The steamer had ber stern wrecked, and bas returned for repairs.
Bblsbane, October 19.
The brigantine Sarah Pile has been towed into the M _ry river. Ihe disaster was caused by the vessel becoming waterlogged and unmanageable. The captain's wife had a narrow escopo from drowning, and was only saved by the pluck and devotion of a "kanaka teaman.
Hobart, October 19.
The ketch G.H.V., trading between Launcestcn and north-west porr,i, capsized off Long Island on Saturday night, and aU the occupants were drownod. Those onboard were three of a crew and fear passengers, named Mrs Ferguson, Pauline Garrett, James Milligan, and A.'Newitt.
