DEBATE ON THE UNEMPLOYED QUESTION.

The debate arranged by the Dunedin, Roslyn, and .North-E<urt Valley Parliamentary Unions and tha Catholic Literary Society, the University D&bating Society, and the Moray piece Men's Institute, which was commenced in the Moray plaoo Congregational Church Hall on the night of the llfh iu«t., was continued and concluded last night. Mr J. B. Callan, ot the Dunedin Parliamentary Uniou, acted as Speaker, and there was a largo attendance of tkb gonoral pub!io in addition to tho delegates from the debating societies. Tha subject for discussion was the following motion moved at the last meeting by Mr R. S. Tennaut: " That it is not a duty ineumbant upon the Government of this colony to provide work _ for the unemployed, * save under exceptional circumstances." Tee speakers last night were Mrs Bum (Duuedia Union), IHr W. A. Sim (Dunediu Uuion), Mr J. P. Eager (Catholic Literary Society). Miss Freeman (University Debating Society), Mr G. Calder (North-Etst Valley Union), Mr A. Matheson (Uoiilyn Union). Mr Hood and Mr Sykes (Men's Institute), Mr C. Bosreune (University Society) the Rev. W. Saunders (Men's Institate), Mr A H. Burton (Dunedin Union), Air J. A. Hally (Catholic Literary Society), Mr C. M Mouat Univeroity Society). Mr Muir (North East Valley Uuion), nnd Mr R. S. Teananfc (of the Dunedin Union), who sooko in reply. The question, which'wa*dweus-ed'with much earnestness and intelligence, roiolved it*elf into one of Individualism versus Socialism, and some very good speeches ware given on both sides.
