SHEEPFARMERS TO THE EDITOR.
! Sir,—l notice a letter from Mr 6. Lawrence saddling the sheepfarmers with want of forethought for their sbeep, and suggesting that fchey be compelled to grow winter feed. He seems to me to be saddling the wrong donkey. Most idietpfarm^ra would only be too glad fco grow turnips and hay for winter if they were permitted to do so. A pastoral lease only entitles a tenant to the use of the grass on the run and to nothing elee; he cannot legally plough an aore or grow crop of any kind. In addition to'this, the whole tendency of lata legislation has been to cut all the low ground off and lease only the mountain tops, or leave so little, and such poor ground as to make it impc ssible to grow winter feed. If Mr Lawrence wonld induce the Government to give the sheepfarmers tbe right to plough ond grow crops, and let them have low laud enough to do so, he will receive the thanks of the whole sheepfarming population. — I am, &c , Augusfc 20. ■ Sheepfaemes. Smoke "ROYAL COLORS" TOBACCO.
