The Christchurch Meat Company have given notice to the South Canterbury Refrigerating Company- of their intention to purchase the Timaru freezing works. At the weekly meeting of Uie Mornington Wesleyan Bible and Mutual Improvement Society, at which the Rev. J. K. Buttle presided, the Rev. D. Dutton gave a lecture on " The Companionship of Books." A single girl, afflicted with a baby, drowned herself at Ballarat recently, in a quarry hole. A man, who was working near at the time, gave evidence at the inquest. He said he had seen the body of a woman floating in the water, but made no effort to get ifc out, thinking he might fall into trouble. When eventually the body was brought to land he was horrified to find ii was that of his own sister. INTERESTING DISCOVERY.
