Since the recent election for the city James Halyday, jun., returning officer, . has beeu analysing the poll and going throngh the register to ascertain the number of female ahd number of male voters who went to the ballot box. Of those, 4936 proved to be males and 4171 females, the totsl being 9107; 118 of these spoiled their papers. It is understood the Government have offered Mr Fawcus an . opportunity of returning to the post of engineer in the Government Printing Office,, Wellington, which he . resigned on coming to Auckland to contest the city election, but that he has declined to accept.
