Auckland, Jnly 23,
The feeling with tegard to tho city ekction is becoming intensified as tho polling clay draws nigh, and the campaign is, being conducted with a bitterness unkuown for many years past. No ouo ventures lo predict the result with auy degree of certainty, owing to the cross issues and varying influences at work in the political and Labour orgAnisatiors. Some hold that Mr Thompson will havo a large majority, whilo others state that Mr Monk will win by a narrow majority. Nothing is being left undone by the Government supporters lo get Mr Thompson in, owing to the ditasler to tbe Liberal party that wonld be entailed by hi.s dcleat, aud by the moral ollect if Mr Monk should be victorious
(Pee United Press Association.) Auckland, July 23. At Mr Monk's meetiug to-night in St. James's Hall an organised party took charge and systematically interrupted the pioceedingi. Little or nothing of the Candida! c's spo s ch conld be heard, iv spito of all his endeavours.
