Sydney, July 22. , The Marine Board has authorised the prosecu'ion of the captain of the Anthons for alleged overloading, on the strength of a report irom the marine surveyor. ! The Fall Court has granted applications: for new trials in actions arisipg out of the' Kedfern accident—in*, tha cases of the snffarers Maher and M'K'jnzie, on tha ground that the damages awarded were inadequate ; aud in Jane's case, oa the ground that the verdict was against the evidence. Dart returned unexpectedly owing to an accident to the captain, who had his ! eye injured when openicg a>sodawater bottle, and will probably lose the Bight of it. THE EXTREME PENALTY. A kanaka, named Saphour, was executed at Brisbane Gaol for the murder of a white man, named Peter Henderson, at: Mackay last year. Death was instantaßeous. July 22 '■■ Edward and Alfred Abrahams, convicted ' of fraudulently marking £uns and altering the size, of- tents sold by them, were fined L 250 each and sentenced to, 12 months' hard labour. Mr Justice Williams ordered that sentence be suspended pending an appeal, to the Supreme Court on tho ground that the prisoners were not present when the verdict was, givan. Other two brothers are atill too unwell to appear for sentence
