WRIGHT v. THE JOURNAL COMPANY.
TO THB EDITOS.
Sir,—The judgmoat of the magistrate in this cisc, as published in to-day's Daily Times, mAtes ifc appear that, the amount I advanced to Mr Maxwell for the company was £SQ. EEy nvidence proved thtt.tha acoouot advanosd was £40. and the olaim made by me against the company was for that gum and no more, the cheque given to me by Mr Maxwell, as marjaging director,of the company, being for thaV. amount. ■ :
iac magistrate also says that I admitted that in OstoDer or November 1894 I knew the comp&uy was.adver&sing for all claims against is to be sent in.' r This is not correct. The adverfcis«cnent, I believe, was published in October or Noveo-bsr. but I did not see it until my attention was drawn to it abont th« end of December or the beginning 6^ Jaauary, as I was .absent IMm D^nedin darmg most of. the intervening time. -Taw is what I said ia giving evidence last week, and my"evideoce oq this point was aot eoafeadioied. lamat a loss, therefore, to understand how the magistrate can say that I admitted a knowledge of the advertisement in Ocfcpbecor Noveoaber when my evidence showed clearly .that I did not know of "iSuati! the end of the year or the beginning of ths fdliowins yeK.r.~l am, &a., Dunedin, Jojy 16
