BAREWOOD REEFS. ;';,'. Tenders are being called to put' down a shaft at the Barewood reefs. On inquiryw* learn that the claim upon which this work is to be done has been worked by Walters and party, and yielded £4401) worth of gold in 22 months, the stone I averaging about lOdwt to the ton. This is a flue result, and should give excellent returns to a company using the latest improvements in plant and cyanide. When these reefs were inspected by tbe Minister for Mines in Apri! last he said he lml seen there the best looking quartz lode in Otairo thouch he added that be had not seen Nenthorri' He also expressed himself in favour of a Government grant ia aid of a low-level tunnel if a company were formed for the purpose. ,We learn that it is intended to work the reef s to a'greater depth before forming a company to put.in a low^level tunnel. The capital for Such a .work will no doubt be-readily found. A tunnel would command several parallel lines of reef; with 500 ft to 600 ft of backs for upwards- of a mile, and would giva work for the next 30 years. With the railway for conveyance of mining material, and the Taieri river for power just alongside, the field has great natural advantages. "'-:■'- Mr J. Kay, of Dunedin, has received a telegram from his brother, who is at,present in Western Australia, statins that a rich leef has been struck at Kay's Gully, 90 miles east of Coolgardie.! A Sydney cable states that rich stone struck in tbe Victory mine. Pambula, is estimated to yield 12oz of gold to the ton.
