WELLINGTON NEWS NOTES.

(From Our Own Cobbesfondent.) ■■■■■•■■■',.. Wellington, May 16. THB MEETING OP PARLIAMENT. Some interest is bring taken by parliamentarians in the date to be flssd for the assembling of the Legislature. It is bettered in some quarters that, owing to the absence of the Treasurer, Thursday, the 27th Juno, wilt be fixed for the opening ceremony, instead of tho 20th, whick is the osaal date. Now, if the 27th i s fixed, it will menu that the whole of rhe debat 0 on toe Address must-be disposed of in one d a y (Friday) in order that the Government may obtain iropre9t supply before the end of the month, this twing absolutely necestaryto mee b all engagements ivifcb. the public creditor. Now, as the debate on the Address-in-Beply ??nnot be disposed of under two days if the Opposition exercise the full right of discussion, as I aui assured will be the case, it folio^s that if the House doss not meet before the 27th prox. tbe Government will ba withonfc ways and means on the Ist July. This consideration may induce .'the Premier to meet Parliament on the 20sh Juue, the absence of the Treasurer notwithstanding. EXPORT OF HOUSES. The conditions of the Government offer to assist an experimental shipment of horses to England have been drawn up, and a circular embodying thorn is to be issued to persons likely to be interested. The Government offer to guarantee half the freight, «hicb must not include cost of fodder and Attendance; and should the shipment not realise sufficient to cover fh<s total cost., including freight, in-snrauce. fodder, and eor3ini*<Mfm on sales, will also make up the. deficiency to the smonnt of the guarantee. The horses must be valued and approved before shipment, and consist of a proportion of upstanding horses, hunters, and heavy draught geldinga, not exceeding six years of age. BANK AMALGAMATION. I observe that it has been thought neeeossry to correct a rpcent mistake of mine in naming the National Bank for the Colonial in relation to provable umalgsmation with- the Bank of New Zealand. As I had referred to it as the amalgamation thst \va<( cirrir-d dicing tba last session of Parliament, in which tho National Bank was in no wi«e ooncsraed, I did not suppose so obvious an error was worth correction.
