Messrs Chamberlain and Ourzon wishing *p debate Viscount Wolmer's position, Sir t¥. V. Harcourt caused a scene in the Chamber by aiigrily moving that a writ be fesued for West Edinburgh, which is the constituency represented by the Viscount. Subsequently he withdrew the motion and 'substituted a notice for the appointment of a, committee to inquire if Viscount Wolmer bad succeeded to the earldom. May 15. In the House of Commons Mr Chamberlain urged that the appointment of a committee in Viscount Wolmer's case would form an awkward precedent, and make it necessary to inquire into every suspected peerage. They were unable to force peers to give evidence. Sir W. V. Harcourt rejoined' that to avoid complexity plain evidence of succession would be required. The committee moved for by Hit W. V. Earcourt on Viscount Wolmer's case has been set up. Mr Chamberlain withdraws Ms amendment for widening the scope of the inquiry. Mr Bnxton, in reply to a question, said the Government had no intention of conferring the title of honourable on Ministers of Crown colonies.
