WELLINGTON NEWS NOTES.
» r— (Fbom Oub Own Correspondent.) Wellington, May 11. TEACHERS' APPEAL COURT. Tha Minister for Education will, I am told, introduce during the coming session a Teachers* Appeal Court Bill. Hitherto the teachers in the employ of the State have had no recourse excepting at common law, against wrongful dismissal or other injuries affecting their position in the service. The proposed bill will set up the tribunal that will deal with all such cases and ensure redress if injustice has been inflicted. A HUGE LOTTERT. Adverting to my statement of yesterday thafc a huge lottery of real wtate was said to be contemplated, and that ifc would probably bs the subject for legislation, fche Post this evening says : — It is said thafc the New Zealand Estates Company has approached Mioistprs with a proposal to legalise a gigantic lottery for the purpose of disposing of £850.000 worth of the Bank of New Zealand assets. The bill to authorise fchis is reported to be in au advanced usage of preparation, and although Ministers may not dare to introduce it as a Ministerial measure, they are inclined, it is believed, to look favourably on the project. If such an amount of assets could in this or any other manner be realised ifc would, of course, relieve fche Government, as well as the bunk and the Estates Company, of some difficulty. What Parliament wiil have to say to the proposal remains, however, to be seen. Ifc is sure to meet with much opposition as well as with considerable support.
