: The Otago Rowing Association met last even-ing^-there being present—Messrs J. White (president, in the chair), Innes, Walls, Higgins, Wilson, Platts, Ross, J-eksou, Mitchell, Hooper, and James (secretary). Tho ■Secretary intimated that the: meeting had been called for the purpose of considering the best means of obtaining an eight-oar boat suitable to take part with the other provinces in jinterprovincial racing. After discussiou, the following resolution was carried :—" That steps be immediately taken :by the- association to arrange a systematic canvass for the purpose of obtaining funds for an eight-oar boat." It was also agreed—" That this association is of opinion that the infcerprovincial races to be rowed in eights be controlled by the respective provinces as far as possible in.the same manner- as football, cricket, &c., and that all receipts be taken by the local association in the district in which the race. takes place, and that a copy'of this resolution be forwarded to the secretary of the N.Z.A.R.A. as a suggestion." ,
Notices of motion were then given for the following resolutions, whioh are to be considered by the associated clubs and determined by the association this day month : —" (1) That associated dabs at next season's regattas, row all four-oar races in clinker outriggers, and that pair-oar races; be rowed in pair-oar boats (clinker or 'bests,' to •be determined)," an amendment being proposed—" That all senior races at next season's regattas be rowed in best-and-best boats." (2)"" That no coxswain onder Bst in weight be allowed to steer in any race."
A Christchurch telegram states that the Union Rowing Club strongly disapproves of at present entertaining the proposal to introduce eight-oared racing in the colony, and thinks that while the depression continues clubs will be unable to meet the expense involved. *
An Adelaide cable states that the Intercolonial University Boat Race was won by Sydney by six lengths/ The Adelaide crew fouled Melbourne, and were disqualified ' for' second place.
