In the equity suit to test the validity of the payment of members of the Legislature, the judge considered it would bs better to have the argnment taken before the Fall Court, and with the permission of both parties dismissed the case jjro forma, in order to permit of an appeal. A CASE SETTLED. The case against the Commercial Bank of Australia to recover possession of a cheque for L 2700 and a deposit receipt for L7OOO has been settled, both parties paying their own costs. Thß terms of settlement have not been allo.wed to transpire.. . THE RINGAEOOMA COURT-MARTIAL. The sentence passed by the court-martial on the surgeon on H.M.S. Ringarooma, dismissing him from the service, has been confirmed by Admiral Bridge. Had the doctor remained another three months in the service ho would have been entitled to a retiring allowance of LI2OO. The Daily Telegraph hotly denounces the 'proceedings and the finding of th« court. " Never has there been a case," it saye, "presenting such extraordinary features and demanding such thorough investigation." , The result has caused graafc indignation throughout the fleet, and efforts will be made to -induce the coiosial Governments to send representations to the Imperial authorities.
