GRAPE-GROWING IN OTAGO.

It is sometimes a complaint that bad things pay while good things appear to be unprofitable. This dona not appear to be the casts ia regard to tha good us« of grapes. Our friend Mr A. J. Williams, of Icvergordon (Victoria), secretary of the Youanmite Tent, has brought us a sample of raisins made by him from grapea from tho Gordo Blanco vine. Tho vines have been planted a little less than tnree years; they have had no help from irrigation. The raisinsareisunplysun-dried.and are a Rood size and of splendid flavour. Mr Williams tells us that he can get Cii per II) for all that he has to spare. There is no large outlay as in the case of wine-making, and the return is immediate. Wa hear of vignerons selling their wine at M per gallon; ami seeing that a gallon of wine involves the destruction of 141b of grapes it would appear that in this case at any rate the ' children of light" are wiser in their goneration than the " children of darkness." Mr Williams informs us that he has also some excellent Zante currants produced in the same way.
