SCHOOL COMMITTEES

The monthly meeting of the High streat School Committee, held last evening, was attended by Messrs Mercer (chairman), Hosking, Farnie, Lunu, Jolly, West, Melvin, and Cfimeron. The head master reported that the number of pupils on the roll was: Boya, 388 ; girls, 3C6;—total, 694. The average attendance for the pa3t month was 645. Tho deposits in the penny bauk for the mouth were £12 10s Id, making a total deposit in the bank of £213 4s sd. Miss O'Connell and Mr Urquhart, the pupil teachers appointed by the baard, had commencsd their duties on the 25th of February. Manley, and W. F. Browne. The. head master reported that the cumber on the roll was 809, and the average attendance for the last tour weeks 733. An application was received from Mr J. B. Fergasson for permission to teach the tonic sol-fa method of singing inthe school after hours, and it was resolved to grant permission if satisfactory arrangements could be mada after consulting the head master. The Visiting Committee reported on several necessary school requirements, and that the work was to bo carried out as soon as possible. Re the Railway Commissioners' circular, it was decided to appoint » subcommittee, consisting of tho chairman, the secretary, and Mr R. Coghill, to make the necessary arrangements for a picnic for the school children and parents at an early date.

Tbe ordinary meeting of the Raveusbourno aud Rothesay Committee, held on Monday evening, was attended by Messrs R. Jack (in the ch»ir), King, M'Calloch, Kellofcfc, Ferguson, and Cray. An apology was given for tha absence of Mr T. Henderson. A letter from the Library Committee declining to accede ta the committee's, request to present the annual report of the library at the meeting of householders was read and received. The head master's report for tbe month was as follow?: — Numbers on the roll: Boys, 130 ; girlc, 112 ;— total, 242. Average attendance: Boys, ' 118; girl*, 100 5; —total, 218 5. Tha penny savingi bank report showed: Deposits for month, £5 Os 6d; withdrawals, £2 0s 7d ;—total funds to date, £148 93. The chairman reported that esfcra work connected with the school ground contract, consisting of rubble drain, mud tank, and facing of part of the bank, had been sanctioned and carried oat v.b a cost of £6.
