A meeting oE the creditors in the estate of Thomas Fisher, farmer, of Fairburu, was held to-day. Mr John Laweon presided, and read the list of asicts and liabilities as rendered by the bankrupt. The liabilities were set down at £305 and thn assets at £2. The debtor had been adjudged bankrupt upon ths petition of Misß Wrigloy in connection with the libel action in whioh she was plaintiff and bankrupt defendant, in what was known a» the Fairburn school caso. After Mr Lawson had read the statement, it was moved and carried—"That tho bankrupt be required to furnish to the official assignee a balance sheet and statement of his receipts nr.d expenditure since January 1, 1893." It was also resolved — " That upon the requisite funds being furnished, the official assignee summon bankrupt, his wifo, and any other parsons ho may think fit for examination in reference to bankrupt's dealings, and particularly as to alleged transfer of bankrupt's property to his wife in March last."

At a meeting of tho Executive Committee of the Auckland branch of the Now Zealand Educational Institute, a deputation from th« Women's Political Leaguo waited on the branch with reference to the equalisation of salaries for male and female teachers possessing equal proficiency and efficiency by raising the salaries of female teachers. The committee agreed that tho pay of female teachers was inadequate, but they considered a start would have to be made by raising them gradiully bo tho present standard of male teaohera' salaries. They also pointed out that the bast way to secure better pay for female teachers would be to bring about a colonial scale of salaries, and women, havisg tho franchise, could now bring the matter before Parliament. The secretary was instructed to write to the Women's Political league informing them that the matter would be discussed at the next meeting.

A meeting has bsen held of those intsroEted in the coasting trade of the port, comprising it number of owners of small steamers trading out of Auckland along the co»st, in order to consider the proposed limitation of river limits within which small steamers trade, as proposed by the Shipping and Seamen's Act. Mr Niceol, chairman of the Harbour Board, presided, and pointed out the injustice and hardship which would ba caused by the curtailment of the river limits, and which would put small steamship owners to great expense and annoyance. It was decided to get up a petition and forward it to the Governor protesting against any alteration in respect of steamers plying within the extended river limits.

Wanganui, March 12. William Moir, convicted of illicit liquorBelling nt the Ksrioi races, was fined £20 and costs (£l2 9s Sd), in default a month's imprisonment with hard lsbanr. David Creech was charged wfth illegally exposing liquor for sale at Karioi at the same tiaic, bur. the ,in£oi> matioa wa3 dismissed withont prejudice.

Two boys aged 12—Jumeo Nolan and Leonard Willis—pleaded guilty at the Police Court to-day to breaking into the house of the Hon. W. Montgomery and three others, and stealing goods to the value of £38. It was stated tfcao the fathers of tho boys were away, aud that th6y had become unmanageable. They were committed to the Nelson Industrial School for the usual term.
