INVERCARGILL NOTES.

Invercabgill, January 2*,
At a meeting of citizens this evening, convened by the mayor, a committee was appointed and other arrangements were made for the tendering of a banquet to the Hoc. J. G. Ward oh Monday evening next.
A special train will run from the Bluff on Sunday morning _to couvey to Invercargill excursionists by the Tasmania from Dunedin, and by the Tarawera for the Sounds.
Charles Murdoch, who within the last 12 months was convicted and fined for varions offences, was to-day arrested for rape on a young girl and relative.
The railway authorities, probably with the hope of keeping up a falling revenue, are offering greater inducements to excursionists this season than heretofore. On Saturday next an excursion runs from the Bluff and Invercargill to Biverton, and the following Saturday a train leaves Invercargill at 2 p.m. for Kingston, returning to Invercargill at 10.30 on Monday morning, the fare, including the Lake Wakatipn steamer to and from Queenstown, being 10s second class and 15s first class.
