NOTES FROM LYELL. (FromOuk Own Oorkkspokdknt.) Lyell, January 24. Lvell Creek Company.—The contractors have driven 12ft since starting. The track of the reef is about a foot wide, composed of pug arid quartz. The Cocksparrow dredge returns are 320z 7dwt of amaleam for the week. The face is pretty well clear of timber now and everything working well. The Enterpriee dredge, Alexandra, washed up on ■Wednesday and obtained 20oz 17dwt of gold for six days' dredging. Tha Kumara Times says : "Mora gold was sold to the banks this Christmas than at any these three yearn paßt." Mr William Goodlett, the mineralogist from Otago, intends to devote a week (says the West Caast Times) to an effort to run a prospecting party such as could claim a Government subsidy, with the object of following up some previous explorations in the Paparoa ranges in search of tin and other ores.
