THE LAND BALLOT.

The balloting for the subdivision of what was run 206f, part of T/sieri Lake atation, took place at the Land Board Office yesterday, and was attended by a considerable number of persons, ■who represented upwards of'4oo applicants. As will be seen from the names whole families applied for the same section, the object being to make the chances of one getting it as favourable as' possible. Altogether tWe were 420 applicants, but the bulk of the applications were for two sections—sections 10 and 14, blook Xll—the competition fox the other sections being by no means extraordinary. The ballot was conducted under the supervision of the Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr J. P. MaitUucl), and Mr .1. M. Maisey was chosen and officiated as scrutineer. Of course there was a good •■deal of suppressed excitement during the hour and a-half that wai occupied by the balloting, and necessarily the bulk of the applicants were disappointed. The results and applicants wmb as follows :—
