A tremendous sea disarranged ! the water in the ballast sysUm, and the vessel was compelled to return to Sydney. The 8.3. Te Anan, from Melbourne, via Hobart and the Bluff, arrived at Port Chalmers at 7.30 a.m. yesterday, and steamed alongside the George street pier to discharge 466 sacks bark. She left Melbourne at 2.30 p.m. on the 16th inst. and Williamstown at 5 p.m., clearing Port Phillip Heads Bt 7.55 p.m. same day; passed Swan Island at 4.30 p.m. on the following day; experienced moderate southerly winds with smooth sea to arrival at Hobart at 1.45 p m. on the ISth, leaving again at 5.30 p.m., and passed Cape Kaoul at 9 p.m. same day; had moderate southerly winds and fine ■weather across; sighted Puysegur Point light at 1.45 a.m. on the 22nd, and passed the Solanders at 7.20 a.m., reaching the Bluff at 1 p.m., and left again at 6.15 p.m. same day, had fine weather along the coast, and arrived as above. She steamed up from Port Chalmers yesterday afternoon and landed cargo at tha tongue wharf. The s.s. Napier, from Fortrose, arrived at the Eattray street wharf at 4 a.m. yesterday, and left again in the afternoon for Invercargill. A strong detachment of the seamen and marines of H.M.S. Royalist, with their field howitzer, and headed by their drum and fife band, were landed yesterday, and marched out for drill. The s.s. Herald steamid up from Port Chalmers yesterday, and after taking in cargo left in the evening for the West Coast, via northern ports. The s.s. Rotomahana took in cargo at liunedin wharf yesterday, and leaves this afternoon for Sydney, via the East Coast ports. The barque Laira put out 23,000 bags of sugar at the Rattray street wharf. It has all turned out in first-class order. The bsrque Waimea lias put out some heavy lifts at the cross wharf. She is rapidly getting clear of her cargo. The ship Canterbury has still a little cargo to put out. The barque Earnock was on the loading berth at Liverpool on December 7, and was to sail on the 31st for this port, via Wellington. The New Zealand Shipping Company's barque Huiunui left Cardiff for this port on November «0.
