CYCLING.

INVBRCAUGILL TO DUNEDIN RECORD.

Yesterday Mr H. P. Sanders, a member of the Dunedin Cycling Club, was started *t 7 o'clock from Invercargill by Messrs Saarle and Jones, of the Invercargill Cycling Club. There was a alight drizzling raiii at starting, but the roads from Invorcargill to Mataura were found to be fair though sloppy, and the distance (32 i miles) was covered in a little under two hoars. The Mataura to Clinton road was in bad order, j and after considerable labour Clinton was j reached at 11.40. A spell of four minutes was there made, and Sanders remounting, paced by D. Deere, of Wniwera, reached Balclutha at 14----miuntos past 1 o'clock. From Balelutha, which was left at half-past 1, Sanders was paced by J. | Melville (Dunedin Cycling Club), and good time was inado to Milton (2.25). A short stop was made at Heuley, which was reached at 3.25. Here aa old pain in the side caused Sanders some trouble, and from Henley to town slow riding had to be mado. Coming into Green Island a dog colliding with the machine erased a nasty spill, which had the effect of making the pace materially slower. At Caversham Sanders was met by A. G. Melville (Dunedin Cycling Club), who brought him along to the Post Office, which was reached at six minutes to 6. Ths time was taken at Dunedin by R. Crow and A. 6. Melville, and, Sanders carrying an official record card with him, his time of ,10hr 54min will be accepted as a record for the distance. The previous record (12hr 30£min) was made by B. R. Godward on 23rd October last. Sanders rode a Regal Raglan machine (63 gear), weighing 361b all on. His present record of lOhr 54-min, made over indifferent roads aod against a head wind, is likely to stand for some time. TAIBRI RAMBLERS' SPORTS.
