The Rom an Catholic Biihops made application to-day to the Board of Education to authorise the iDspoetion of Roman Catholic schools in the Auckland district under their management. The Chairman naid a similar application had been made a year ago and declined. After discussion the board decided to defer consideration of the matter for a fortnight, when the chief inspector is to be present at the meeting and confer with the board. At tho meeting of the Board of Education an estimate of income 'aud expenditure for 1895 was read. Under the heading o£ income, the statutory capitation is pub down at £78,750 (less income from reserves, £1700), the capita- [ tion grant for schokr«hip« at, £1575, ths grant for school buildings at £8000, the grant in aid of inspection at £650, local contributions at £50, and the income from reserves at £1790, making a total o£ £89,025. Tiie expenditure is put down at £88,845. It was agreed to forwurd the accounts to the Government. Wellington, January 22.
