FIRES.

An-alarm of fire was given from tho Scotia 'JXofcel indicator about 8.15 last evening, the fire being in tho shop of Wilson Bros., at the corner bi Durrdas and King streets. Tha B»me« originated under tha counter in tho shop, and >3 one of the employees stayed behind after the place was closed to fill up some rat holes, His presumed he left flee behind him. Mr Wilson left the premises about 7 o'cldbk, at which time everything was apparently safe. Ihe Fife Brigade under Captain Mitchell were Bpeedily on the spot, and the ilames were got under before much damage was done. The shop on the side the tire occurred was slightly injured by water, and tho ceiling was blistered1. The opposite side of the shop and the upstairs portion, occupied by Mr 3 Abbot, were not injured. The stock, which was valued at £1200, was insured in the New Zealand Office for £500 and in the Standard for £200, while tho building (which was a large briok ooe belonging to Mr Geo. Mitcholl) was insured in the National Office for £2000.

The Southland Times reports that a shod containing machinery, tha property of Dlr W. G. Rich, wag destroyed by fire at t'orfcrose last Wednesday night.
