This summary represents shipping events for the period commencing November 26 and end? ing December 23, both dates iuclu6ive. STATISTICAL, FOBBIGN, ETC. As we expected with the approach of Bummer, shipping matters are showing an upward tendency, and with the influx of our great staple—wool—we may look for busier tirass. During the period represented hers the arrivals of vessels of all classes at the port of Otago has been 46, with a total of 61,112 tons register, as against 57 vessels, with 61,700 tons, last month; |the departures this month camprise 45 vessels, with a total of 54,646 tons register, os against 34 vassels, with a total of 41,702 tons last month. The arrival of vestals from oversea ports this month has been 6, representing 15,222 tons register; and the departures 2 vessels, with a total of 10,672 tons register. Last month, the arrivals were 7 vessel?, with 17,419 tone ; and the departures 2 vessels, representing a total of 9449 tons register. The first arrival from overseas during the month was that of the barque Cynisea, of 893 tons, Captain Lloyd, from Algoa Bay, South : Africa, in ballast. She came into port on November 28, and was at once put on the loading borth for London under ths anspices of the New Zealand Shipping Company. The locally owned barque Auriga, of 518 tons, Captain Stone, arrived at Dunedin with a cargo of sugar from Mauritius. The R.M.S. Gothic, of 7730 tons, Captain W. H. Kidley, from London, via intermediate ports, arrived at Port Chalmers on December 5.'The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's fine ship Blenheim, of 1073 tons, Captain Coiville, with 1490 tons of cargo from London, arrived here on December 10; and the barque Firth of Forth, of 867 tone, Captain Higgins, with 1600 tons of cargo from New York, arrived in harbour on December 20, after a passage of 130 days; and the liat of oversea arrivals was completed by the R.M.S. Kaikoura, of 4057 tons, Captain Forbes, from London, via Northern ports, which reached Port Chalmers en December 21. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's fine cargo steamer Kangatira, of 2942 tona, Captain Burton, K.N.R., left Port Chalmers on November 29 for London, via northern ports ; and the same company's R.M.S. Gothic, of 7730 tons, Captain Kidley, took her departure for London, via northern ports, on December j 6. ■ INTERCOLONIAL. The trade between the port of Otago and those of the sister colonies has been wcl! maintained this month. The number of arrivals has been 16 vessels, with 32,442 toas, and the departures 14 vessels, representing 27.241 tons register. Lasb month the arrivals were 19 vessels, with 29,795 tons, and the departures 12 vessels, with a total of 21,067 tous. COASTAL. A fairly good trado has been done this month between this port and those along the seaboard of the colony. The number of vessels of all classes which have arrived has been 24, with a total of 13,448 tou3, and tha departures 29 vessels, with 16,733 tons. Last mouth there were 31 arrivals, with 14,498 tons, and 20 departures, with 11,286 tons.
